University of Texas in Arlington
Established in 1895, UT Arlington is nationally recognized for its doctoral/research programs and has a student population of over 25,000. It is the third largest institution in the University of Texas System, offering over 70 baccalaureate, 70 masters and 33 doctoral degrees in 11 colleges and schools.
Six Flags Over Texas
The first Six Flags Amusement Park in the nation was opened in Arlington in 1961 and continues to draw large crowds for exciting rides such as the Tony Hawk's Big Spin and the Texas Giant, daily parades featuring Looney Tunes and DC Comics characters including Batman and Superman, concerts and stage productions. Six Flags Hurricane Harbor
Another first for Six Flags began in Arlington when Wet & Wild was purchased in 1993. More than three million gallons of water rides and activities await the entire family at Six Flags Hurricane Harbor Texas. This 47-acre waterpark near Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington offers water slides and attractions for all ages, including 26 slides, an interactive water playground, lazy river and a large wave pool.
River Legacy Park
River Legacy Parks is a 1,300 acre oasis on the Trinity River in the heart of north Arlington. The Parks currently offer more than eight miles of paved trails winding through thick forest and expansive greenbelts. Wildlife is abundant in the Parks; outdoor enthusiasts from birders to botanists flock to the Parks for a glimpse of its diverse flora and fauna. It’s also the perfect place to hike, bike and jog — or just spread out a blanket and relax. At River Legacy Parks, you will find picnic areas, Legacy Pavilion, paved hike/bike trails, a meditation area, river overlooks, multipurpose areas, water fountains, restrooms and a playground.
Ranger's Ballpark in Arlington
Since April 1994, the state-of-the-art Ranger's Ballpark in Arlington has hosted Major League Baseball favorite, the Texas Rangers, in an impressive retro-style 270-acre complex which solidifies Arlington, Texas as an entertainment giant in the Southwest. This unique complex also includes a baseball museum, a children's learning center, and a four-story office building within the ballpark and a youth baseball park and a 12-acre lake.
Dallas Cowboys Stadium
Dallas Cowboys New Stadium is the working title of a new stadium being built in Arlington, Texas for the NFL's Dallas Cowboys. It will replace Texas Stadium, which opened in 1971, as the Cowboys’ home. It is scheduled to open before the 2009 NFL season and will accommodate 80,000, with the possibility for expansion to accommodate 100,000. The stadium will host Superbowl XLV in 2001 and will also be home to the Dallas Cowboys Hall of Fame museum, the AT&T Cotton Bowl and the Texas A&M vs. University of Arkansas rivalry matches.
